Do americans hate people that aren't perfect?

i was shocked to stunble upon a website aimed at american teens (you read right, TEENS) that had a count down of the "20 ugliest celebrities" and "10 ugliest celebrity similes" calling celebrity females such as nicky hilton and mariah carey "ugly and fat". i personally think this is shallow and a sh*t influence on teens. i know how the american media makes teens think that they have to have movie star teeth, orange skin and bleach blonde hair to be "acceptable" (in the "website's" top 20 most beautiful celebrities, most of them had blindingly white teeth, orange skin and blonde highlights). i DO NOT mean this as an insult to americans at all.....i was just shocked at what i saw and am curious to know what your opinions on this are.
