What advantage did Hernan Cortes have from using "translators" when he defeated the Aztec empire?

More than the help from transaltors, Cotes had the help form peoples opressed by the aztecs such as the Tlaxcaltecas...although for example he did use translators to communicate with them, the most famous being "La Malinche" with whom he even had a son.
