Is intelligence hereditary?

Well, not really. When many people see smart kids having smart parents, they wrongfully attribute it to being hereditary when it was actually the "smart" upbringing of that person. I come from a very similar situation, and I can definitely say that it was from the education around me that shaped me to be who I am today.
